General information and scientific

 about English Literature -1-

What do you mean by literature?

Literature is a term used to describe written and sometimes spoken material. Derived from the Latin word literature meaning "writing formed with letters," literature most commonly refers to works of the creative imagination, including poetry, drama, fiction, nonfiction, and in some instances, journalism, and song.

Who is the founder of literature in English?

Geoffrey Chaucer is considered the founder of modern English literature. Although Old English had produced a rich literature in the early Middle Ages, this writing tradition ended abruptly after the Norman invasion of 1066. Geoffrey Chaucer is called the father of English literature because he was the first to write what became generally well-known and recognized poems and stories in the language of the common people of his time - medieval English.

What are the 8 periods of English literature?

Old English (Anglo-Saxon) Period (450–1066)
Middle English Period (1066–1500)
The Renaissance (1500–1660)
The Neoclassical Period (1600–1785)
The Romantic Period (1785–1832)
The Victorian Period (1832–1901)
The Edwardian Period (1901–1914)
The Georgian Period (1910–1936)
The Modern Period (1914–?)
The Postmodern Period (1945–?)

What are the three types of literature?

The three major types of literature are drama, epic and lyric.

What is importance of literature?

Literature is important in everyday life because it connects individuals with larger truths and ideas in a society. Literature creates a way for people to record their thoughts and experiences in a way that is accessible to others, through fictionalized accounts of the experience.

Why is literature important in education?

Giving learners access to all varieties of literature is extremely important for their success. Educators, parents, and community members should help students develop a love and passion for reading. Not only is reading literature important in developing cognitive skills to be able to succeed in a school or work setting, but it is valuable for other reasons as well. It gives students appreciation about their own cultural heritage as well as those of others; it helps students develop emotional intelligence and creativity; it nurtures growth and development of the student's personality and social skills; and it transmits important literature and themes from one generation to the next.
