Who discovered English?

Old English developed from a set of North Sea Germanic dialects originally spoken along the coasts of Frisia, Lower Saxony, Jutland, and Southern Sweden by Germanic tribes known as the Angles, Saxons, and Jutes. From the 5th century CE, the Anglo-Saxons settled Britain as the Roman economy and administration collapsed.

When did English literature start?

The story of English literature begins with the Germanic tradition of the Anglo-Saxon settlers. Beowulf stands at its head. This epic poem of the 8th century is in Anglo-Saxon, now more usually described as Old English.

Who is the first Indian to write in English?

Early Indian writers used English unadulterated by Indian words to convey an experience which was essentially Indian. Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay (1838–1894) wrote Rajmohan's Wife and published it in 1864; it is the first Indian novel written in English.

Caedmon is the earliest English poet whose name is known, and his only known surviving work Caedmon's Hymn probably dates from the late 7th century.

Literature is defined as books and other written works, especially those considered to have creative or artistic merit or lasting value. Books written by Charles Dickens are an example of literature. Books written on a scientific subject are examples of scientific literature.
